Burns
Fires rank fifth among accidental causes of injuries after motor vehicle related crashes, poisonings, falls, and drowning. Second and third degree burn injuries are extremely painful and serious. Burn victims often experience pain and disfigurement, multiple surgeries, skin grafting, reconstructive surgery, depression, post-traumatic stress, and in the worst cases death. Photographs of the victim at every stage of his or her recovery, and while undergoing treatment, are critical to properly document the extent of the injuries.
There are three categories of burns:
- First degree burns: mild burn to the top layer of skin, redness, pain, and swelling
- Second degree burns: serious burn to the top layer and layer underneath, blisters, severe pain, and redness
- Third degree burns: most serious kind of burn to all layers of skin and tissue underneath, waxy white, brown, charred, little to no pain because of numbness from nerve damage
Common causes of burn injury include:
- House Fires
- Scalding Water from improperly set water hoses
- Industrial fires / Workplace Accidents
- Auto Wrecks
- Truck Wrecks
- Candles
- Gas Leaks
- Fireworks
- Fuel fed fire due to poor auto design
- Improperly filled / over-filled propane tank
